About Me

About Me

Liz Pulver attended Stony Brook University, where she graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Journalism and a concentration in Public Affairs and Public Policy. She was a member of the university's NCAA Division 1 women's volleyball team, with which she made two NCAA Tournament appearances and served as a captain in her senior year.

Liz has a passion for telling stories that highlight and advocate for marginalized groups in a creative way and human interest stories through the lens of sports, social justice and pop culture. She is known for taking risks with her video production and has been recognized for her ability to bring stories to life that enable change and break from the status quo.

During her time at Stony Brook, Liz served as the Creative Content Intern for the Athletic Department, the Executive Producer of The Stony Brook Newsbreak and the Social Media Manager for the Life Skills Office in Athletics. She was also a part of a group of students who conceptualized and launched the School of Journalism’s first digital-style news show, "The 631."

In April 2020 Liz was recognized as a Top 20 finisher in the TV News II category of the 2019-2020 Hearst College Journalism Awards for one of her packages for "The 631." She also won the Dean of Student's Award for Excellence in Video Journalism, an Undergraduate Recognition Award for Academic Excellence, and made the Dean's List every semester.

Liz interned at a variety of news outlets such as Newsday Media Group, WSHU Public Radio Group and the Sag Harbor Express News.

During her college career Liz also served as one of 30 Student Ambassadors for the university, a PACK Mentor to freshman athletes, a teaching assistant  and as a member of the School of Journalism Advisory Board. Liz was also the emcee for the athletic department's annual awards banquet and Lip Sync Battle.

After living her entire life in Southern California, Liz decided to accept a four-year NCAA Division 1 scholarship and move across the country to Long Island to play volleyball and expand her horizons.

During her time at Stony Brook Liz helped lead her team to the program's first America East Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances.

Division 1 athletics instilled Liz with a competitive spirit and strong work ethic that makes her want to take the time to perfect her craft, not just to simply get things done. She found individual success as a team captain, three-time All Tournament Team Selection and team kill leader her senior year.

Being a student-athlete also ingrained Liz with teamwork and leadership skills. Her time as an athlete not only taught her how to work with others to accomplish a goal but to do so in a leadership position alongside all different types of people and personalities.

Having this drive for success while being involved in many different areas has made effective time management Liz's bread and butter. She maintained A’s in her journalism classes while also spending 20-40 hours every week on volleyball commitments and being involved in extra-curricular activities around campus.
